Dressée fièrement au croisement de grands boulevards parisiens, la porte Saint-Denis rappelle les fastes de Louis XIV et les entrées triomphales d’un Paris d’Ancien Régime.

Édifiée en 1672 par l’architecte Blondel, cette arche monumentale remplace une ancienne porte médiévale et célèbre les victoires militaires du Roi-Soleil. Inspirée des arcs de triomphe romains, elle s’impose par sa grandeur, ses bas-reliefs sculptés et son inscription à la gloire du roi. Autour, le quartier mêle esprit populaire et renouveau urbain.
